During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, this company gained distinction for its craftsmanship, particularly in the production of greenhouses, verandahs, summer houses, cucumber frames, melon pits, mushroom beds, orchid stages, vineries, and peach-houses. However, as demand for these products diminished from the 1930s onwards, the company redirected its efforts towards manufacturing heating equipment, eventually transforming into an engineering firm. It was also recognized under the name Midland Horticultural Company.

Historically, the area adjacent to Cumberland Road was affectionately known as 'Messenger’s Village,' encompassing the residences of both the workers and proprietors of the firm.
